1920s Sterling Silver Lady with Lily Pond Pendant - Opal and Butterfly Wing
This antique 1920s pendant is made from sterling silver, butterfly wing and opal. It features a beautiful design of an Art Deco lady kneeling down in front of a lily pond. She has been reverse painted by hand onto a thick glass panel, which has then been set into silver with butterfly wing and opal behind it to give the impression of depth. The pond water is represented by a dark blue butterfly wing, and the sky is a lighter blue; her dress is formed from tiny chips of real opal. It sits within a sterling silver bezel, and it’s stamped on the back “England, Sterling”. There’s also a patent number which was registered to the Shipton Company of Birmingham in 1923 for this method of using butterfly in jewellery. There’s a jump ring at the top for hanging.
Measures 2.2cm wide and 3.5cm long with the bale. Weighs 6.0 grams.
Condition: Very good antique condition. No chips, cracks or damage to the glass. The paint, butterfly wings and opals are all in excellent order with no damage or loss. Overall, it just has the usual tarnish and light marks to the silver which you’d expect on an antique piece.
