ON HOLD…..Antique Silver Joan of Arc Medal Pendant by Tairac - French
ON HOLD FOR S…..
This antique pendant is made from silver. It depicts Joan of Arc in armour, holding a banner which says “Sus Maria”, short for “Jhesus, Maria” (Jesus, Mary) which was historically used by Joan on her real banner. She stands by an alter with a crown and candle burning, and there are lily flowers to the bottom left and right corners, which symbolise purity, chastity and the holy trinity. On the reverse are the words Jeanne D’Arc, Bienheureuse (French adjective meaning happy or blessed) and Priez pour Nous (pray for us). There are also fleur de lys symbols, a sword and a sprig of what looks like yew tree, representing eternity, death and resurrection. The pendant has some stamps the front, around the bale hole, but they’re too indistinct to make out, however it acid tests as silver. It is stamped Tairac on the bottom left edge.
Measures 3.3cm long including the bale, and 2.1cm across the widest point. Weighs 5.4 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. Has some minor surface rubbing commensurate with its age but most of the detail is still good.
