1899 Sterling Silver Engraved Leaf & Shield Vesta Locket / Pendant
This antique vesta case is made from sterling silver. It was originally designed to be hung from a gentleman’s pocket watch chain, to hold matches to keep them safe and dry (the ridged bit on the base was for striking them), but today you can pop any little keepsake inside. It’s hand engraved all over with a leaf design, and even the edges have decoration! There’s also an empty shield on one side for engraving initials. It’s hallmarked on the rim of the lid, from the Birmingham Assay Office, with the date letter for 1899. There’s a large jump ring at the top for hanging.
The main body of the vesta measures 4.1cm long, 2.7cm wide and 1.2cm deep. Weighs 17.8 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. The lid snaps shut fully and stays closed as it should. Just has the usual light marks and tarnish to the silver which you'd expect on an antique item.
