Antique Unusual Silver Filigree Sewing Etui
This unusual piece is an antique sewing etui, made from silver. It’s intricately made in filigree, with an ingenius design! There’s a tape measure in the top which can be pulled out via a little silver tab. This goes to 35” on a blue ribbon with a fabulous swagged curtain decoration running along the top. It can be wound back in by turning the top section. You can then unscrew the lower section to create a thimble, and hidden within this part is an adorable little Bristol blue glass bottle which I believe it for storing pins. The thimble has a little shield on the front where initials could be engraved (it’s empty at present) and there’s a fixed bale loop at the top so it could be hung on a chatelaine or chain. Dates to c. 1890. It’s unstamped but has been acid tested to confirm that it is silver.
The pendant measures 1.9cm wide, and 5.2cm long including the bale. It weighs 14.2 grams.
Condition: Very good antique condition. No damage to the filigree. The ribbon has some minor wear as you’d expect and there are some tiny fleabites around the neck of the bottle. Overall however, it just has the usual light marks and tarnish which you’d expect on an antique item.
