Victorian Bohemian Garnet Locket with Glazed Front and Back - Gold Filled
Here I have a Victorian Bohemian garnet pendant. It has a halo of rose cut garnets around the front and bevelled glass panels on the front and back. The rear panel can be prised out so you can put a picture inside. It’s made of “garnet gold”, which is gilded base metal. tTe Bohemian jewellers of that time used a range of metals to set their garnets so everyone could afford it, from expensive gold to cheaper gilded base metal like this (and more recently gilded silver). It has a rosey-coppery tone.
Measures 3.8cm long and 3.1cm wide. Weighs 6.4 grams.
Condition: Good uncleaned antique condition. No missing garnets and they’re all in good order. There’s a chip to the front glass panel on the bottom edge which i’ve tried to show in the last 4 photos. The rear panel holds in place firmly. The gilding is rather tarnished and has worn a bit here and there but not too badly. Overall, it just has the usual marks and tarnish which you'd expect on an antique item.
