Antique Sterling Silver Engraved Maltese Cross Double Sided Locket - 1881
Here I have a beautiful Victorian sterling silver locket. It’s hand engraved front and back, with a Maltese Cross design on one side and acanthus leaves on the reverse. Even the edges are engraved! There’s room inside for 2 photos; one side still has it’s little removable frame to hold the photo in place, the other side has lost its frame but if you cut your photo to size carefully, it should stay in place. It’s fully hallmarked on the back with the date letter for 1881, from the Birmingham Assay Office.
The main body of the pendant measures 3.8cm long, and 3.2cm wide. With the bale, the total width is 5.4cm. Weighs 11 grams.
Condition: Very good uncleaned antique condition. It shuts really nice and securely. There are a few little dings to the leafy side, commensurate with its age but they’re hidden well by the engraving. Overall, it just has the usual light marks and tarnish to the silver which you'd expect on an antique item.
