Antique Silver Plated Owl Aide Memoire / Notebook for Chatelaine
This antique aide memoire is made from silver plated brass. It depicts an owl with wings outstretched, on a pine tree branch (look at those pine cones!), the owl has its original little glass eyes. Above is a swirling poppy head and leaf design which is also repeated on the reverse around an empty cartouche where initials could be engraved. The lid works on a spring so when you remove the little brass pencil to the side it pops open. I’ve made a little notebook for inside out of scrap paper, you could fashion something much nicer out of better paper, cut to size and stapled! The pencil is currently not useable as it’s lost the piece inside which holds the lead and the top bit which pushes it down, so at present this just functions to hold the notebook together when closed.
Measures 7.0cm in length (not including the hanging ring at the top) and 4.6cm across the widest point.
Condition: Very good antique condition. Just has the usual light marks and tarnish which you’d expect on an antique item. Very little rubbing to the silver plate. Pencil is not useable as mentioned above.
